The Nativity

With Christmases coming up allot of people are posting the nativity story but popular nativity story is combination of the nativity story’s from Matthew and Luke two contradicting and mutually excursive story’s.

Luke 1:26-2:21
In Luke Joseph and Mary have to go from Nazareth to Bethlehem, for a census ordered by Emperor Augustu (the Census of Quirinius) and when they got there, there was no room inn (they couldn’t fine at least some room for Joseph and Mary, a pregnant girl? what kind of horrible people ran the inn in that town? You’d think at least one person would have said “No, they can have my spot” cause Mary was freakin’ pregnant), they where forced to stay with the animals and Mary had to give birth surrounded by animals. And after Joseph registering in the census they go back to there home Nazareth.

Matthew 1:18-2:23
Matthew however never mentions the inn, the manger or or the census. And heres where is becomes mutually excursive, the Magi’s god to Bethlehem and find Mary and baby Jesus in a house (Matthew 2:11) Josephs fathers house (Matthew 2:22-23) and when Mary Joseph and Jesus leave Bethlehem they head not to Nazareth but to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-14) and they head to Nazareth from Egypt after Herod had died (Matthew 2:19-23)

So as you can see the story are mutually excursive.

Now I’m not writing this cause a hate Christmas (which I do though (I hate getting gifts it makes me feel like I owe people, I can’t afford it and people just keep dragging me into it) I just don’t think people should believe in things that are false (the popular nativity story which is a hodgepodge of the two nativity’s) and the belief that the bible isn’t contradictory)
And this doesn’t take anything away from Christmas , it is a pagan holiday that Christians adopted and in the modern world is a secular holiday.
